STARS ON STAGE began several years ago when principal Shirley Bond and a team of teachers went to the school board and lobbied for Fremont to do things a little bit differently.  They wanted the school to be a School of Technology, Arts, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic for Success, or STARS.
Each nine weeks two grade levels are involved in a production.  During the production time the special area teachers and the classroom teachers team together to teach the students core curriculum through the various special area modalities (they teach through the arts).  Each class is taught by the classroom teacher and the arts teacher as a team; students are exposed to cross curricular teaching at its finest.
The classes learn music, dance, drama and art throughout the production of the show; they also learn about setting, genre, and characters through the use of good literature in the form of a musical.  Students intrinsically learn about critical thinking; if you've ever done a stage production, you know anything can happen...and will.  Students learn to make quick decisions and act on them in a controlled environment.  Read on to see what students learned in each production.
